about

“Kindergarten Crush (I’m Selfish)” was a song written about this girl that I have/had a Kindergarten Crush on. When I say Kindergarten Crush, it is defined as a girl/guy that makes you feel like you're in kindergarten all over again whenever you talk to them. That person makes you smile, laugh, blush, and just makes you feel perfectly fine to be yourself around them. At the time was written, I had the HUGEST crush on this girl that lived in an entirely different state than me. The two of us have so much in common from our favorite sports team, music, to the way we feel about life and relationships in general. It's crazy how much of a connection you can feel with someone you've never met, but you talk to all the time. In my opinion she's the example of a PERFECT woman. I’ve never met anyone like her in the 18+ years that I’ve been on the planet. The reason I wrote the song is because I feel like she knows I have this crush on her even though I've never directly said it. I also feel like at times it's possible that she may have that same crush even though she's a little older than me (no big deal to me), but then those feelings are quickly suppressed by the reality that it would seem pointless for her to get involved with me because we live about 600 miles away. So with all of this going through my mind, I decided I'd write a song to get it all out of my system. In the song I'm explaining why I have this huge crush on her and making sure she knows that it's her that I'm talking about by using lines and references that only she would know of. I'm asking why I feel like this "Maybe it's because I don't know if you even care". I explain that even though I'm from a different part of the country, I would be willing to give it a try. I even resort to the grade school tactic of leaving a "Do You like me "Yes" or "No" note" in her locker and running away because I'm scared of the response. Days after I wrote this, I began feeling as if I was being too hopeful, and like her I needed to come back to reality. To me it would be something worth pursuing, but at the end of the day things rest on how she feels—which after hearing this I hoped she would tell me.
